Pittsburgh, PA, – Higher Images, Inc. will film a Google Virtual Tour of the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank on April 14 to help the organization with outreach efforts in educating the public on hunger. The company will be donating half of the tour cost directly back to the organization.

The Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank is a nonprofit distribution center dedicated to eliminating hunger. It serves about 360,000 people annually, including 76,000 children and 92,000 senior citizens in the Greater Pittsburgh area. Every month the facility, located in Duquesne, Pa, distributes nearly 2-million pounds of food.

“We will be using the virtual tour as a communications and educational tool to increase outreach efforts in other counties. It will allow us to essentially bring the facility to them,” said Beth Snyder, the food bank’s public relations specialist. She added it will bring a level of transparency allowing the general public into the vast operation and its efforts to feed people in need and mobilize our communities to eliminate hunger.

The interactive virtual tour will offer the public full navigation as they visit the facility either from a computer screen of a mobile device. Viewers will be able to explore and interact with all areas of the massive distribution facility. The newest technologies will provide time saving initiatives for volunteers by allowing them to get to know the facility prior to being on site, according to Communications Technology Coordinator Zachary Hirschfeld.

The food bank is preparing for the Summer Food Service Program that helps fill the nutritional gap for kids when school lets out for summer break. In Pennsylvania, over 590,000 children receive daily free or reduced school lunches, which in many cases is their only meal of the day. Undernourished children are at risk of serious health, social and educational problems carrying into adulthood. For ways you can help families in need, view the organizations donations page.
